Research Assistant

The laboratory of Mark Guiltinan and Siela Maximova in the Department of Plant Science at The Pennsylvania State University seeks a highly motivated junior level research technologist to work in a molecular and plant biotech lab on Theobroma cacao. Must have experience in general plant biotechnology including tissue culture and plant propagation. Additional plant experience in greenhouse maintenance and basic molecular biology techniques is preferred. Ordering, stocking, troubleshooting, maintenance of lab equipment, preparation of reagents, media making and maintaining inventory expected. Must be reliable, organized, flexible with ability to handle multiple activities and to reprioritize tasks.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus 1 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Coursework in related fields (Plant Science and Molecular Biology) a plus. Strong attention to details, excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required. Include a cover letter that summarizes relevant experience and reasons for interest in the job, along with a CV that includes contact information for three references. This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with a good possibility of re-funding.

This position will require successful completion of standard background checks. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
