Detailed Job Description
Applications are invited for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Software Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The department has one opening for an Assistant Professor in Software Engineering starting either January or August 2023.
RIT is committed to being a student-centered research university. As part of that commitment, Assistant Professors will be offered a low teaching load, with tenure review during year six, after which the teaching load will be adjusted according to the intensity of the research load. RIT is also positioned to provide excellent competitive startup funding for PhD students, equipment, and travel in support of building an outstanding research program. The university provides support for gaining external funding, including several internal seed funding opportunities.

The College:
The Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences prepares students to change the world through computing; GCCIS is home to the departments of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing Security, School of Information, and the School of Interactive Games and Media. The college's PhD program in Computer and Information Sciences is ranked 74th in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report and 63rd by CSRankings.org. The college has over 130 full-time faculty and more than 3,600 undergraduate and 950 graduate students. The Department:
Founded in 1996, the RIT Department of Software Engineering is the first department of its kind in the US. The department is part of RIT's largest college, the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences.The department has 19 full-time faculty members, numerous Ph.D. students in SE, and multiple postdocs. The SE department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Software Engineering, as well as a new Masters in Data Science. The undergraduate Software Engineering program has been accredited by ABET since 2001, most recently renewed in 2016, and is the first Software Engineering degree offered in the US. Our faculty publish in top-tier venues and contribute to leading conferences and journals. Funded research is carried out in the areas of artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering education, secured software, software evolution and maintenance, software architecture, search based software engineering, and adaptive software systems.

Required Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in any area of software engineering, or closely related discipline, with a track record of publication in leading software engineering, data science and/or artificial intelligence venues. In particular, we encourage applications from candidates with a background in applying software engineering research to support artificial intelligence and data science in either, or both, industry and research.

Candidates shall meet the following qualification criteria:
  • Demonstrated ability for scholarly research, as shown by a recent scholarly dissemination record relevant to the applicant's area of expertise, and/or experience developing research proposals.
  • Scholarly dissemination includes peer-reviewed conferences and journals in well-known software engineering, data science or artificial intelligence research venues; or development of peer-reviewed software products, or data sets.
  • Commitment and potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Potential to collaborate in research with colleagues within the department, college, university, and externally.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
  • A PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related computing discipline, is required by the start date of the appointment.
