Cryo-EM Structural Biologist/Adjunct Professor Series*

The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is seeking an outstanding and motivated individual to join our cutting-edge research institute aimed at discovering new therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate will immediately contribute to our ongoing cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) structural biology program focused on deciphering the structural basis for neurodegenerative diseases, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Parkinson's disease (PD). The IND is building a highly focused and multidisciplinary team to discover the causes of disease, and develop effective pharmacologic treatments, cures and diagnostic markers for these diseases. The IND is directed by Nobel Laureate Dr. Stanley Prusiner and located at the Sandler Neurosciences Center at UCSF's Mission Bay campus, a world-renowned hub of biomedical research and discovery.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding cryo-EM structural biology researcher, responsible for developing and applying these methods to determine atomic-resolution structures and models of protein macromolecules. Research emphasis will be on biochemical purification, performing cell-based assays and structure determination of amyloid filaments derived from complex systems including neuronal tissue and cell culture models. The successful candidate will collaborate with team members across disciplines to characterize different conformations of disease-relevant proteins and be responsible for all levels of the research project.

Demonstrated expertise in cryo-EM including structure determination of protein macromolecules by single particle and helical reconstruction methods.
Experience in performing cell-culture assays and biochemical protein purification and analysis.

Preferred:
Expertise in cryo-EM computational software including RELION, cryoSPARC and cisTEM.
Experience in teaching and/or training in cryo-EM

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. Salary is dependent upon experience.
