Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Cyber Analytics and Operations

Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for a Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Cyber Analytics and Operations (36 weeks) to start Fall 2021, or as negotiated. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.

Responsibilities: Teach four courses (approximately 12 credits) each semester for our Bachelor's degree programs in Cyber Analytics and Security and Information Sciences. As security and privacy are inherently interdisciplinary, we are interested in human, social, behavioral, political, and economic aspects, in addition to technical and engineering aspects, of security and privacy.

Candidates must be able to teach courses in, but not limited to:
  • Blockchain security, cryptocurrencies, applied crypto; cybercrime, cyber law, dark web
  • Privacy by design, privacy preserving technologies, formal/statistical privacy, differential privacy
  • Human factors of security and privacy; politics/economics of security and privacy, social/policy perspectives on security and privacy
  • PS/IoT security, hardware security
  • Security of autonomous systems
  • AI in security and security in AI


Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Advise students and provide career guidance
  • Participate in campus, university, and community service activities
  • Participation in professional organizations and in course development


Qualifications: Rank at the Lecturer level (for M.S. or M.B.A. candidates); will consider hiring at the Assistant Teaching Professor level commensurate with a doctorate and experience. Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Significant industry and prior college-level teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial environment with faculty and administration is required. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.
