The Department of History at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, part of the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in African History with the anticipated start date of August 1, 2025. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on West, Central, East, and/or Southern Africa.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • PhD in history or a closely related field. Individuals who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) will be considered; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the start date of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain an active scholarly agenda.
  • Ability to teach introductory courses in world and African history.
  • Ability to teach advanced courses in African history.
  • Ability to teach historical methods courses (i.e., HIST 2100 and HIST 4020).
  • Willingness and ability to engage in alternative modes of instruction, including online instruction.
  • Willingness to assist the UTC campus in reaching additional goals as specified in UTC's Strategic Plan.
