Overview:
The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Anatomy and Physiology instructor to teach at the undergraduate level. Applicants from a broad variety of biological disciplines will be considered for this full-time teaching position, with an appointment as an Assistant Teaching Professor. The anticipated start date is August 2024.

The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the ongoing curricular improvement of the Anatomy and Physiology course sequence (lectures and labs), and in the development and implementation of inclusive teaching strategies. In addition to teaching, the position involves advising students and engaging in service activities and committees that strengthen the program, department, college, and university community. The A&P sequence, typically taken by students in the allied health and nursing programs, utilizes a combination of models, mammalian organ dissection, plastinated human donors, online resources and virtual human dissection tables. The A&P teaching laboratories will soon move into the university's new, state of the art, Science, Innovation, Technology and Exploration (SITE) facility, opening in fall 2025.

The Department of Biological Sciences has 24 full-time faculty whose academic specialties span disciplines from Molecular Genetics through Ecology. The student-centered department has a strong sense of community, and the faculty are highly collaborative in both teaching and research.

In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 32 undergraduate minors, an MS in Molecular and Cell Biology, and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Data Science/MS or MA in Communications, 3+1 BS in Data Science/MBA, 3+1 BS in Economics/MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism or MBA, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA or MA in Communications, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, and Math.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach lectures and labs of Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
  • Take a leadership role in the ongoing curricular improvement of the course sequence, and in the development and implementation of inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses, as determined by departmental need and the candidate's specialty
  • Guide, advise, and mentor students academically and professionally.
  • Engage in service activities to help advance the mission and values of the university, such as participating in department, college and university meetings and committee work.
  • Support Quinnipiac University's commitment to an inclusive environment.

Education Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Biology (or a terminal degree in a closely related field) is required at the time of appointment

Qualifications:
  • Ability to effectively teach undergraduate-level lectures of Anatomy and Physiology in an engaging and innovative manner
  • Ability to take a leadership role in the ongoing curricular development of the Anatomy and Physiology course sequence, lectures and labs.
  • Ability to take a leadership role in developing and implementing inclusive teaching strategies.
