Conditions of Employment
This is a part time, temporary, non-exempt position. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs, the Saturday Academy Instructor teaches two to three courses to high school students in one or more of the following subjects: English composition/literature, math (through calculus), laboratory science, and/or SAT/ACT Preparation. The incumbent develops and implements class lessons for the duration of the 2019-2020 Saturday Academy Program. Class periods run approximately 80 minutes each, with up to three classes per day.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach Upward Bound Program students (grades 9 through 12).
- Submit a course description and outline for approval
- Obtain student records containing information on students' programs, attendance, and grades
- Communicate with Pre-College staff about issues or concerns relating to individual student's academic progress or behavior
- Conduct pre- and post-learning assessments and end-of-course evaluations by students
- Attend instructor orientation and weekly staff meetings as scheduled
- Provide a 24-hour notice if illness or other situation prevents an instructor from conducting class.
- Complete instructor survey at end of program

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties take place primarily in classrooms and office settings located in various locations on the Sonoma State University campus. The hours are intermittent and will be specified by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator and provide advance notice of illness or other situation preventing an instructor from conducting class.


Qualifications
This position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. BA/S with teaching credential and computer literacy preferred. Expertise in at least one academic content area; one-year experience teaching middle or high school students; and the ability to develop and implement curriculum in accordance with state standards are required. Proven success in overcoming obstacles similar to those of the target population preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of student-centered instructional methodologies; possess sensitivity to the needs and characteristics of low-income and potential first-generation students; and the ability to facilitate academic and motivational development for low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations. Knowledge of general college admissions procedures and university requirements. Fingerprint clearance required.
