Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Sep 26, 2023
Deadline:

The Department of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track position in Ecology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are looking to recruit an individual with an innovative research agenda in any area of Ecology emphasizing the themes of resilience, sustainability and/or adaptation. Some areas of interest include (but are not limited to) population and community responses to global change, and ecology and adaptation to human-built and modified environments in any system. We emphasize these areas only and encourage applications from all candidates working in Ecology. We are especially interested in candidates who utilize novel approaches that span levels of biological organization, spatial and/or temporal scales and transcend traditional boundaries.

The Department values interdisciplinary research, collaboration, and collegiality, and has a vision emphasizing Life in its Natural Context. The University has campus-wide strategic initiatives in Sustainability (https://sustainability.upenn.edu/) and Environmental Innovations (https://environment.upenn.edu/).

The appointment is expected to begin July 1, 2024. A PhD or an equivalent degree in a relevant discipline is required at the start of the appointment. Applicants should provide: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement describing past research accomplishments, a teaching statement, a diversity statement (see below for more information) and contact information for three references (letters will be requested after the first round of selection). All materials should be provided at http://apply.interfolio.com/133155. Review of applications will begin November 6, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Biology has an action plan to increase the diversity and inclusion of people of all backgrounds in Biology, including those historically underrepresented in STEM fields. The action plan includes outreach to pre-college students and the general public, increasing the inclusiveness of teaching, mentoring, and research for undergraduate students, and recruiting and supporting a diverse pool of graduate students and postdocs. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to one or more of these goals. The diversity statement should describe how they would do so, including the candidate's prior experience working toward these goals.
